Technologic Names Top Ten at Datacenter Ventures

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Technologic Partners, the publisher of VentureWire, announced the winners of its Investors' Choice award at the conclusion of its two-day Datacenter Ventures private equity conference held this week in Redwood City, Calif. The event featured startups working in storage, security, and systems and server managment products. The Investors' Choice award goes to the ten privately held companies presenting at the conference judged most likely to succeed.

The winners, in alphabetical order, are:

Azul, a Mountain View, Calif.-based early stage stealth mode startup focused on specialized data center infrastructure products (www.azulsystems.com).

Centrata, a Redwood, Calif.-based provider of XML-based software to manage computing infrastructure with a central focus on the services to be delivered from it (www.centrata.com).

CreekPath Systems, a Longmont, Colo. -based developer of storage operating support systems for large enterprises and service providers (www.creekpath.com).

Decru, a Redwood City, Calif.-based a provider of security storage appliances (www.decru.com).

Fortinet, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based a provider of network protection systems (www.fortinet.com).

Netezza, a Framingham, Mass.-based provider of data management appliances (www.netezza.com).

Outerbay Technology, a Campbell, Calif.-based provider of application data management software (www.outerbay.com).

Panasas, a Fremont, Calif.-based developer of scalable storage networks that combines a distributed file system with hardware (www.panasas.com).

Preventsys, a Carlsbad, Calif.-based provider of network security software (www.preventsys.com).

Sychron, a San Mateo, Calif.-based provider of policy-based workload management software (www.sychron).
 
Winners were selected from the 70 privately held companies that presented their business plans at the conference. The awards were based on voting by an audience of 400 entrepreneurs, investors, and industry executives, as well as a panel of experts, including Vladimir Jacimovic, managing director, Crosslink Capital; Peter Solvik, managing director, Sigma Partners; Mark Stahlman, vice president and senior analyst, American Technology Research; and Perry Wu, partner, ComVentures.

The keynote speakers at this year's conference were Charles Boesenberg, chairman, president and CEO of NetIQ; Clark Masters, executive vice president, enterprise systems products, Sun Microsystems; Mary McDowell,
senior vice president, corporate strategy and development, Hewlett-Packard; Ron Moritz, senior vice president and chief security strategist, eTrust security solutions,Computer Associates International; and Gil Shwed, chairman, CEO, and founder of Check Point Software Technologies.
