Burlington, Mass. -- Xelerated, a supplier of network processors, said Michael Barar has joined the company as vice president of sales.

Mr. Barar was most recently vice president of sales and marketing at SandCraft, a developer of MIPS microprocessors. Prior to joining SandCraft Mr. Barar held management positions at Nexus/IBM, LSI Logic, and Advanced Micro Devices.

Xelerated's Xelerator X10q line of products is based on the company's data-flow architecture, which provides 40 Gbps of wire speed at under 10 Watts. Due to its architecture, the start-up's chip does not require interconnects or redundant data and instruction storage.

Xelerated, which was founded in August 2000, has raised about $26 million from investors like Atlas Venture, Alta Partners, and Startupfactory. The company closed its Series B round in July 2003 with $12.5 million. Based in Burlington, Mass., the company also operates offices in Santa Clara, Calif. and Stockholm, Sweden.
