1. Why am I not getting my VentureWire?
There are several possible reasons for this:

A. You canceled your subscription.
If you'd like to begin receiving VentureWire again, you can re-register.

B. We canceled your subscription.
We regularly remove names from our mailing list when e-mail addresses fail. From time to time we might mistake an autoresponse for a failure-signifying bounce. For example, if you go on vacation for several days and your mail system is automatically notifying corresponents that you're away, it may appear to our servers that your e-mail address is no longer working. In some of these instances we'll mistakenly remove you from the list. In such cases, the best approach is to re-subscribe to VentureWire.

C. You changed jobs, or changed e-mail accounts.
Did you remember to bring us with you? If not, change you e-mail address.

D. Other mysterious failure.
The Internet is a deep and complex space: messages can disappear without a trace; mail servers can mysteriously refuse contact with certain mailers; errant addresses go undiscovered.

Most subscribers get VentureWire well before 9:00 AM Eastern time every day. If you don't, or if you're consistently not receiving VentureWire at all, re-subscribing to the news service at a different e-mail address can help.

If you've tried this and still can't seem to get VentureWire reliably, contact us at venturewire@venturewire.com and we'll see if we can solve your problem.

2. Why is my VentureWire garbled?
We send VentureWire every day in two versions, plain text and HTML. Some client mail programs -- and in particular older software running on minority platforms -- are unable to handle the HTML version, and will display the text of the newswire interspersed with angle brackets and html tags.

If you're seeing such things in your mail reader, you'll likely be happier receiving the plain-text version of VentureWire. You can switch to a different version.

3. How can I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription any time. If you'd like to begin receiving VentureWire again at any point, simply re-subscribe.

4. I'm [moving | changing jobs]. How can I make sure I continue to get VentureWire?
You can use our account management section to change your e-mail address. When you do so, we'll send you a short form via e-mail that you can fill out and return to us to let us know what other information (title, address) has changed.

5. How can I switch to the [HTML | text] version of VentureWire?
Visit the VentureWire site and switch to a different version. Enter your e-mail address and password and select the version you'd like to receive.

6. Should I get the [HTML | text] version of VentureWire?
You'll likely prefer the HTML edition if you're using an HTML-capable mail client such as Microsoft's Outlook and Outlook Express, or Netscape's Communicator and Messenger.
But there are reasons not to switch.

A. Your desktop mail reader is older and doesn't handle HTML properly.

B. You read VentureWire out of the office on a Blackberry, as do many venture capitalists and other frequent travelers. In this case, the HTML edition is worse, not better.

C. You receive VentureWire via America Online. In our experience, AOL doesn't always display HTML mail correctly.

D. You've had trouble with HTML mail in the past. For reasons unknown such mail doesn't always get through your mail system.

7. When can I get feature X, Y, or Z?
We might already be working on the feature you're looking for. Look for a steady stream of product improvements and announcements through the winter and spring of 2001. If there's a particular feature or facility you'd like to see, drop us a note and if possible we'll put your name on the list of beta testers.

8. Can I link to a VentureWire story about my company?
Yes. Generally stories are available for ten days after date of publication. If you drop us a request (don't forget to mention the story you want reprinted) at venturewire@venturewire.com, we'll make stories available permanently in our reprints section.

9. Can I republish VentureWire content?
In the main, no.

10. Where can I find information about a particular company?
Every day VentureWire publishes a list of companies mentioned in that day's edition both in the HTML mailing and at professional.venturewire.com.

11. Where can I find information about a particular investor?
Every day VentureWire publishes a list of investors who were involved in that day's deals both in the HTML mailing and at professional.venturewire.com.

12. How can I send a press release to VentureWire?
Send press announcements or any other news items to editor@venturewire.com.
